At Mathnasium of Highland our Philosophy is that children don’t hate math, they hate being confused and intimidated by math. With understanding comes passion, and with passion comes growth— A treasure is unlocked.
The key to understanding math is Number Sense. Number Sense does not develop by accident. It is the result of a process of encounter and interaction with a specific set of concepts and skills presented in a way that makes sense to the learner.

When a new student attend Mathnasium he is first given an assessment. We then use the results of this assessment to develop a learning plan and provide curriculum materials which cater to the unique needs of the student. He is guided by a Mathnasium math instructor when he attends after school. The curriculum focuses on primarily written material, mental math, and includes manipulatives when appropriate, as well as other teaching tools. Learning new concepts is balanced with practicing those that have already been learned. The student also spends time working on his homework to assure that he is grasping the concepts being taught in school. For proof of progress, we rely on the student's report card, independent tests, and parent testimony, to measure the speed and magnitude of improvement in math skills, numerical thinking, and attitude.

Students come to Mathnasium of Highland once or twice a week. Instruction is taught in a friendly and fun atmosphere.
